Athena is considered the Goddess of: wisdom, war, and the crafts.

Said to be born fully grown from the head of Zeus. Athena was often considered the favorite child of Zeus. As it pertains to war in the mythology surrounding Athena, she was considered more just and balanced, where her brother Ares was much more aggressive. 

Athena is closely associated with owls (sharp vision in the dark) and snakes (renewal and wisdom). There are many depictions of Athena holding Nike in her hand, which may be a representation of the victory granted.
