    A beautiful Aztec Calendar box. The Aztec or Mexica calendar is the calendar system that was used by the Aztecs as well as other pre-Columbian peoples of central Mexico. It is one of the mesoamerican calendars, sharing the basic structure of calendars from throughout ancient Mesoamerica. This sculpture is made to depict the Aztec calendar, highlighting the solar and lunar gods and goddesses. The surface of the whole box is sculpted with intricate details of the Aztec culture.

    The Aztecs - a dominant force in central Mexico, they built an elaborate and beautiful landscape in Tenochtitlán in 1325 AD. The Aztec city held some of the most magnificent statues and pyramids built to honor the Aztec Gods - Huitzilopochtli, Tlaloc, and many more. Many are familiar with the Aztec calendar that was based on a solar cycle of 365 days and a ritual cycle of 260 days.
